When routine becomes a task for robots

WISAG Sicherheit & Service Holding GmbH & Co. KG will be working with start-up Ascento AG in future. The young Zurich-based company specialises in security robotics and has developed a tailor-made solution with its autonomous assistants.

‘We spent a long time looking for the right partner in the field of robotics – Ascento’s security robots finally won us over,’ says Andreas Burmeister, Managing Director of WISAG Sicherheit & Service Holding. ‘The devices are robust, all-terrain and work reliably even under difficult conditions. Because they were developed specifically for the security sector, they can be quickly integrated into existing protection concepts – and offer our customers tangible added value.’

The smart helpers are specially designed for use in large outdoor areas such as industrial sites or logistics areas. They perform routine tasks such as patrols, person recognition, perimeter checks – i.e. checking fences and gates – and visual inspections of doors, windows and lighting. In doing so, they detect anomalies and security-critical situations. Depending on the occasion, they either send an alarm or create a report, for example in the case of illegal parking. Security personnel can also communicate directly with people on site via a connection. The autonomous helpers are also suitable for tasks that are risky for humans, such as chemical spills or extreme conditions.

Three-month pilot project confirms added value

WISAG put the robots’ capabilities through their paces in a three-month pilot project. The results were consistently positive: The robot took on routine tasks such as patrols, parking space monitoring and visual checks of doors and windows – at a significantly higher frequency than its human colleagues. This relieved the burden on the security personnel on site, who were then able to concentrate more on more complex tasks, such as access control and monitoring of interior spaces and sensitive areas. Together, these two factors resulted in a noticeable increase in security.

Greater security through intelligent robotics

Ascento manufactures its smart assistants primarily from critical components sourced from the EU and Switzerland. Data storage also takes place in Switzerland. As part of a robotics-as-a-service solution, Ascento also handles maintenance and servicing of the devices. This complete package from a single source means high quality and reliable technology for WISAG and its customers.
