ASSA ABLOY acquires GfS and strengthens market position

ASSA ABLOY has acquired GfS, Gesellschaft für Sicherheitstechnik mbH, one of Europe’s leading manufacturers of emergency exit security systems and door components. The Hamburg-based company has over 20 employees.

This acquisition strengthens ASSA ABLOY’s position as a leading provider of locking solutions and security systems for doors.

The company stands for excellence, products that fit well with our portfolio, and extensive experience in the market for innovative escape route security systems,’ says Achim Haberstock, SVP & Head of Central Europe ASSA ABLOY. ‘With the acquisition of GfS, ASSA ABLOY is strengthening its product offering in Germany and Europe.’

The management of GfS views the integration into the world’s leading manufacturer and supplier of locking solutions and security systems as a positive step into the future. ‘GfS and ASSA ABLOY are already working closely together and have a lot in common. ASSA ABLOY will open up new markets for GfS and new sales opportunities for the extensive product portfolio and in particular for the new product lines GfS Smartterminal and GfS Einhand-Türwächter Go,’ explains Managing Director René Charlet. ’By becoming part of the ASSA ABLOY Group, we can leverage the strengths of both companies and serve our customers even better. In the longer term, we will also create more resources and opportunities for our employees,’ says René Charlet.

GfS will continue to operate as an independent business unit under the existing management team and employees, to whom the company owes its current success. This means that the acquisition will have no negative impact on existing employees and the Hamburg site will be retained.
