Data protection becomes a driver for AI: Milestone strengthens its strategy with anonymisation technology

April 27, 2026

Video technology provider Milestone Systems is consistently driving forward its AI strategy and positioning data protection as a key driver of innovation. With revenue growth of 10 per cent to €298 million in 2025, the company invested just under a third of its revenue in research and development – with a clear focus on video analytics, the cloud and responsible AI.

A key component is the integration of the Berlin-based company brighter AI. Its technology enables the automated anonymisation of video and image data without losing their analytical value. In doing so, Milestone is addressing a key industry challenge: the lack of training data that can be used in compliance with regulations such as the General Data Protection Regulation and the European AI Act.

As part of Project Hafnia – a platform developed in collaboration with NVIDIA – these technologies are set to enable scalable, privacy-compliant AI training in the future. At the same time, Milestone is expanding its portfolio towards open platform solutions that integrate video management, AI analytics and cloud services.

This development shows that data protection is increasingly becoming a competitive advantage. Without a data protection-compliant database, the deployment of powerful AI systems in Europe is virtually unfeasible. Milestone is responding to this with a clear strategy that specifically brings together technological development and regulatory requirements.
