HID, a trusted source of identity solutions, has received certification from BSI for its HID Guardian 100 and HID Guardian 200 ten-print fingerprint scanners. This certification confirms that the devices comply with the technical guideline ‘Biometrics in sovereign applications’ (BSI TR-03121).

The Guardian 100 biometric scanner is specifically designed for the challenges of large-scale identity management applications and offers simple, fast and forensically high-quality capture of flat fingerprints. The HID Guardian 200 product is also able to capture rolled fingerprints and delivers high-quality images of both flat and rolled fingerprints in the best forensic quality. Both models reliably capture wet and dry fingers without recalibration thanks to advanced Moisture-Discriminating-Optics (MDO) technology.

The two scanners have now received certification from the BSI confirming that the devices comply with the BSI TR-03121 guideline with regard to the Function Module AH-FP-OPT and the Function Module PAD-FP-APP respectively. The OPT function module describes the requirements for optical fingerprint scanners, for example with regard to image quality. The PAD (Presentation Attack Detection) module is concerned with the specifications for detecting presentation attacks in connection with the capture of biometric fingerprint data. The certificates received by HID are valid until September 2028 (OPT) and September 2029 (PAD), respectively.

Fingerprint scanners with BSI certification have been thoroughly tested and proven to process biometric data securely. The certifications help ensure that users can trust that the scanners will function reliably and that sensitive data will be kept safe from unauthorised access or tampering. The BSI FM PAD-FP-APP certification is particularly important as it ensures that a fingerprint scanner can effectively detect and prevent presentation attacks such as fake fingerprints or modified biometric data.
