  • OSPA for outstanding security partnership: Berlin Brandenburg Airport and KÖTTER Aviation Security receive award
  • Jury honours special joint achievement with prestigious industry award
  • After separation from previous service provider: Smooth transition within just five days ensured flight operations and more than 300 jobs in summer 2024

High recognition for exceptional team performance: Airport security at Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) and KÖTTER Aviation Security were honoured at this year’s Outstanding Security Performance Awards (OSPAs) in the category ‘Outstanding Security Partnership’. The prestigious award recognises the smooth interaction between two partners who, under considerable time pressure, ensured stability, quality and trust in a particularly challenging environment.

“This award is a great testament to what is possible when people stand together and take responsibility in an exceptional situation. We are proud of our joint achievement and would like to thank our client for their trust and the jury for this special honour. The OSPA underlines what partnership-based cooperation in the security industry really means,‘ says Andreas Kaus, Managing Director of KÖTTER Aviation Security SE & Co. KG. ’At the same time, I would like to express my special thanks to our aviation security team at BER, without whose great commitment this achievement would not have been possible.”

This is also emphasised by Oliver Braun, Head of Security at Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH. “This achievement was only possible because both sides in the now award-winning security partnership – we as the airport security team and our partner KÖTTER Aviation Security – worked together transparently and with full commitment from day one. The common goal of maintaining flight operations without restrictions in the summer of 2024 motivated everyone involved to perform at their best. With great success, as the OSPA once again emphasises, which is a very special recognition and confirmation for all of us,‘ said Oliver Braun, who was also honoured in the ’Outstanding In-House Security Manager” category at the OSPA awards ceremony last Wednesday.

Challenge mastered in record time

Background to the current award for BER and KÖTTER in the ‘Outstanding Security Partnership’ category: In the summer of 2024, BER had to part ways with its previous service provider at short notice – an enormous challenge for the international commercial airport, which was managed within a very short time thanks to the now award-winning security partnership: Within just five days of the contract being awarded, KÖTTER Aviation Security took over responsibility for personnel and goods checks, access controls and patrols on 1 July 2024. Not only was the transition seamless, but it also resulted in a measurable improvement in quality. As part of this major undertaking, over 300 employees from the previous service provider were taken on, trained and firmly integrated into the structures of KÖTTER Aviation Security. This included, among other things, recording thousands of employee data, providing uniforms and vehicles, setting up the technical infrastructure, and establishing management structures and operational standards. At the same time, team building took place, for example through staff meetings and on-site support for new colleagues.
