Precision meets explosion protection Secure signal transmission under ATEX conditions

February 6, 2026

Industrial processes in the chemical, oil & gas and biogas sectors place the highest demands on safety, measurement accuracy and compliance with standards. Even minor errors in signal transmission can lead to costly production downtime or even dangerous situations. Together with our manufacturing partner Dataforth, we present a solution that efficiently meets these challenges – safely, precisely and in compliance with standards.

DSCA: ATEX-compliant signal conditioning for Zone 2 applications

The DSCA modules reliably condition and isolate sensor signals and convert them into standardised analogue signals – even under demanding conditions. The devices are ATEX-compliant according to EN 60079-15:2019 and intended for use in Zone 2 hazardous gas atmospheres in accordance with Directive 2014/34/EU. This does not apply to the DSCA33-04x and DSCA33-05x types.

Advantages at a glance:

  • ATEX compliance according to EN 60079-15 for Zone 2 gas atmospheres (product-specific)
  • Connection of mV and low-voltage signals, thermocouples, RTDs, strain gauges and resistance sensors
  • Top-hat rail mounting

High measurement accuracy, low drift, excellent common-mode rejection

Robust EMC properties for electrically demanding industrial environments

This enables the modules to perform precise measurements in potentially explosive areas.

SCM5B series: 3-fold galvanic isolation for maximum safety

When many measurement channels need to be processed safely and space is limited, the SCM5B modules offer an alternative for the safe processing of signals from hazardous areas. Thanks to true triple galvanic isolation between input, output and supply, ground loops, potential carryover and overvoltages are reliably prevented.

Advantages:

  • High insulation voltages and excellent interference immunity
  • Long-term stability for continuous system operation
  • Over 200 different module variants for all common sensor systems
  • Ideal as an interface between potentially explosive field areas and safe control systems (non-Ex areas)

System architecture for ATEX-related applications

Combined, the two product families fulfil clearly defined tasks:

  • DSCA: Standard-compliant, low-energy signal conversion in the ATEX area
  • SCM5B: Highly secure galvanic isolation and signal processing with a small form factor

This creates a clean separation between Ex and non-Ex areas, which facilitates planning in accordance with ATEX and EMC guidelines, minimises risks and significantly increases operational safety.

Fields of application

Areas of application range from the chemical and petrochemical industries to oil & gas, biogas, wastewater and dust explosion-hazardous processes.

Conclusion

With the DSCA and SCM5B series, Dataforth provides a technically rigorous solution for ATEX-related applications, consistently and optimally combining explosion protection, electrical isolation and measurement precision. The result is a robust, standard-compliant and long-term stable signal transmission concept for demanding industrial applications.
