The Alarm.com technology, which was presented at CES 2025, combines radar technology with artificial intelligence (AI) for health and safety monitoring. It is an interesting development of existing concepts, but not a completely new technology.
Radar and AI-based monitoring systems, as presented here, have the advantage of using motion-detecting sensors to analyse heart rate and breathing patterns without requiring invasive cameras or wearable devices. The system is supported by AI to detect irregular activity, such as sudden stops in movement or falls, and generate real-time alerts. This improves safety monitoring, especially in areas such as ‘aging-in-place’ concepts that help older people live safely in their own homes.
The idea of combining health monitoring and security is not entirely new in the industry. Similar solutions that use radar sensors and AI for health monitoring already exist, for example in care facilities, hospitals or even private households. Alarm.com’s innovative approach, however, lies in the integration of both systems (security and health monitoring) and the fact that it is non-contact. The use of radar sensors instead of cameras and portable devices represents a significant advance in the area of data protection and comfort.
A key advantage of the technology is that it can be easily integrated into existing systems, making it easier for companies and private households to switch over. The preventive security function (detecting risks in real time) is also an important feature, as it provides early warning of hazards before a critical incident occurs.
Although radar-based health monitoring with AI analysis is not entirely new, the combination of these technologies for security applications and global scalability represents an important development. This radar-AI solution could play a particularly important role in regions with an increasing demand for health and safety solutions.
