World’s first project installation at Schiphol Airport: carousel sliding door from Boon Edam as next-generation entrance solution
At Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, entrance expert Boon Edam celebrated the opening of the world’s first Orbit TriSens carousel sliding door on 16 January 2024. At the official opening, three royal companies came together to crown the project installation: Manufacturer Royal Boon Edam, airline Royal Schiphol Group and construction company Royal BAM Group.
Many people come and go at Schiphol Airport every day, mostly laden with bags and suitcases. The new Orbit TriSens three-panel revolving sliding door offers sufficient space for the high volume of people and their luggage and ensures smooth processes when entering the building. The design of the entrance solution is modern and minimalist. The revolving door has integrated sliding doors that enable several operating modes. The retractable door leaf ensures a continuous flow of people and thus fulfils the airport operator’s requirements for maximum user-friendliness. Special priority was given to the airport’s safety requirements: the revolving door’s integrated emergency exit function ensures the safety of visitors. In addition, the door can be monitored and controlled remotely via a secure room. Orbit TriSens is the latest innovation from Boon Edam and was installed at the main entrance of Departure 3 on the landside. Winner of various prizes such as the German Design Award 2023, the revolutionary product is also highly energy-efficient – a future-oriented, environmentally friendly solution.

The three companies involved worked closely together to realise the project at Amsterdam Airport.
