Stefan Engelbrecht brings expertise in corporate security and critical infrastructure to the German business security association. His appointment comes as cyber resilience, NIS2 and geopolitical risks reshape companies’ security priorities.
Energy security is central to any discussion of critical infrastructure. Stefan Engelbrecht, Chief Security Officer at RWE AG, has now joined the executive board of the Allianz für Sicherheit in der Wirtschaft West (ASW West), a business security association based in North Rhine-Westphalia. Elected on 7 October, he moves from the association’s broader board to the body responsible for its legal representation.
Engelbrecht is not new to the association: he has served on its broader board for some time. He succeeds Katharina Geutebrück, who left the board in September after many years of service, most recently as deputy chair, where she also oversaw the association’s finances. Her departure followed a change of ownership at video security specialist GEUTEBRÜCK, the company she had previously led with her husband.
ASW West is a non-profit association with more than 230 member companies. It connects businesses, security providers, public authorities and academic institutions, and works across a broad range of economic security issues, from cyber and information security to physical protection, crisis management and the prevention of corporate crime. Engelbrecht’s experience at RWE is particularly relevant where the security of individual companies intersects with the resilience of essential services.
The association’s recent programme points to an agenda extending beyond conventional corporate security. A further cyberattack simulation with North Rhine-Westphalia’s State Criminal Police Office is scheduled for 3 November, followed by a webinar on the region’s NIS2 contact point on 26 November. Other topics include the protection of critical infrastructure, counter-drone security and national resilience. The common thread is preparedness: helping companies identify risks earlier, respond to incidents and work more closely with public authorities and other partners. Engelbrecht’s appointment strengthens the board’s expertise in a field where these links are especially visible in the protection of energy supply. [www.aswwest.de]
