Securitas wins another tender for passenger checks at BER

March 6, 2025

Securitas will continue to be responsible for passenger and baggage controls at Berlin-Brandenburg Airport (BER). Germany’s largest security company has been able to secure the contract for a further seven years as part of a Europe-wide tender. This means that around 1,800 Securitas employees will continue to be deployed in both terminals.

As the exclusive service provider for activities within the scope of Section 5 of the Aviation Security Act, Securitas continues to control passengers, their hand and checked baggage at BER. For this purpose, the specially trained security personnel use the latest security technology provided by the airport, such as CT baggage scanners, explosives detectors and liquid detectors. Securitas’ range of tasks at BER also includes special controls for particularly security-relevant flights.

Securitas has been operating at Berlin’s airports since the 1990s. The security company with the three red dots was involved in milestones such as the relocation of Berlin-Tegel and the opening of BER in autumn 2020, as well as the airport operator’s takeover of control of aviation security.

Reactions to the award of the contract to Securitas

Ralf Brümmer, Country President and Chairman of the Management Board of Securitas Germany, explains: ‘Our work at the capital city airport is one of Securitas’ largest and longest-standing contracts in Germany. With around 1,800 employees at one location, we are a reliable partner for the airport operator and the aviation security authorities. We look forward to continuing to fulfil this responsibility.’

Tobias Soppart, Segment Director / Managing Director Securitas Aviation Germany, emphasises: ‘The continuation of the cooperation with the airport operator and the federal police is above all a recognition of the excellent work of our team at BER. Our employees not only ensure security, but are also an important figurehead for the airport. I would therefore like to express my special thanks to our entire team.’

Aletta von Massenbach, Chair of the Management Board of Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH, adds: ‘As an airport operator, our aim is to balance security, service and efficiency in passenger checks. Securitas shares this understanding and is a proven partner. Our collaboration has intensified as part of our “Next Level” control model. We are pleased to continue this partnership for another seven years.’
