Everything must be right here: Fire protection in tank and hazardous goods storage facilities

July 16, 2023

HDT’s annual safety conference on 13.09.2023 is also a nationally recognised further training course for immission control and incident officers as defined by the 5th BImSchV.

As part of the annual HDT conference “Fire Protection in Tank and Dangerous Goods Storage”, participants can gain an overview of the latest status in fire and explosion protection and find out about a wide range of current approaches and safety-related solutions.

If there is one place where mistakes or negligence in fire protection must not happen under any circumstances, it is tank farms and hazardous goods storage facilities. Compliance with fire protection precautions for responsible persons and operators is such a decisive factor here because a case of damage would quickly have very far-reaching consequences. However, the safe operation of tank farms and hazardous goods storage facilities can only be guaranteed with sufficient knowledge of monitoring and the current state of the art. Holistic safety concepts are also essential for this.

HDT conference advocates more safety in tank farms and hazardous goods storage facilities

For many years now, the HDT, Germany’s oldest technical training institute, has been committed to further increasing safety in this important area with its wide-ranging training programme. Part of this initiative is the annual conference “Fire Protection in Tank and Dangerous Goods Storage”, at which participants can gain an overview of the latest state of the art in fire and explosion protection and find out about a wide range of current approaches and safety-related solutions on 13 September 2023 at the Haus der Technik in Essen.

“Our conference ‘Fire Protection in Tank and Dangerous Goods Storage’ focuses particularly on the direct transfer to operational practice. ‘From practice – for practice!’ is therefore our motto,” explains the responsible HDT department head Dipl.-Ing. Kai Brommann. Accordingly, the team of speakers consists of proven, experienced professionals from fire brigades, authorities, engineering offices and specialist companies who share their valuable experience, present proven practical solutions and discuss new developments.

2023 again with a completely revised programme

The 2023 conference programme has again been completely revised and updated. For example, lawyer Dr Markus Wintterle (Insquare Rechtsanwälte Partnerschaft Jonescheit Kritter Pauli Wintterle mbB, Mannheim) will explain the current situation regarding liability in fire protection and Frank Preiss (FireDos GmbH) will present contemporary extinguishing systems for the protection of tank farms. On the other hand, Dipl.-Ing. (FH) M. Eng. Benedikt Beckmann (ARU Ingenieurgesellschaft mbH, Lingen).

Dr. Horst Büther (Cologne District Government) will address a particularly hot topic in the truest sense of the word. He reports on the causes and effects of the explosion of a waste tank in Leverkusen. Also important, not least with regard to environmental protection, is the lecture by Dipl.-Ing. Helmut Wekenborg (WeBUS Ingenieurbüro GmbH & Co. KG, Lingen), who will deal with the conversion of tank fire fighting to fluorine-free foam agents.

The HDT conference is considered to be a nationally state-recognised advanced training course for immission control and incident officers as defined in the 5th BImSchV.
