Genetec underpins high standards for cyber security and data protection with certifications

February 2, 2023

Certification to DIN EN ISO 27001 and 20017, UL 2900-2-3 level for cybersecurity and successful SOC 2 Type 2 audit

Genetec, a technology provider for unified security management, public safety and business intelligence, has received a number of certifications that underpin its strong commitment to ensuring the cyber security of Genetec’s solutions and underlying ISMS (Information Security Management System).

ISO 27001 certification for the sixth consecutive year, new ISO 27017 certification.

Genetec has maintained its ISO 27001 certification for the 6th consecutive year, underlining its commitment to cyber security with the additional implementation of standards under the ISO 27017 standard.

With ISO 27001 and 27017 certifications, customers using Genetec Cloud solutions, including Security Center SaaS Edition, Genetec Stratocast™, Genetec Clearance™, Genetec ClearID™, Synergis™ and Genetec Curb Sense™, can be assured that they are working with a company that has implemented strict controls to manage sensitive data and mitigate cyber threats.

Developed by the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), ISO/IEC ISO 27017 builds on the principles of ISO 27001, which provides a control checklist for an organisation to establish, operate and maintain an information security management system.

ISO 27017 focuses on protecting information when using cloud services, with an emphasis on key control areas such as asset management, access control, physical security and compliance. With ISO 27017 certification, an organisation’s systems and processes are subject to rigorous security and privacy standards.

Genetec receives UL 2900 cybersecurity certification for the fourth year in a row

Genetec has again received UL 2900-2-3 Level 3 cybersecurity certification for the fourth consecutive year. The company remains the only video management system (VMS) provider in the world to achieve this certification. The UL Cybersecurity Assurance Program (UL CAP) is a robust certification programme that evaluates the security of vendor network-enabled products and processes. The UL 2900-2 Level 3 standard, to which the Genetec Security Center Omnicast™ video management system has been certified, is specifically designed for rescue and physical security systems. It includes a range of tests including fuzz testing, code and binary analysis, vulnerability assessment, penetration testing and risk management method evaluation.

Genetec successfully passes SOC 2 Type 2 audit

Genetec has also passed the SOC 2 Type 2 audit. The audit covers Genetec’s entire portfolio of cloud products and the underlying ISMS. This means that Genetec’s internal controls are based on industry best practices and meet SOC 2 Type 2 criteria and requirements. This report, defined by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), provides assurance to Genetec’s potential customers and partners that the company adheres to privacy best practices and has all appropriate safeguards and processes in place to control who can access sensitive data. The third-party SOC 2 Type 2 audit covers five key areas: security, availability, processing integrity, confidentiality, and privacy. The SOC 3 report Genetec received can be viewed here.

“Certification to ISO and UL standards and SOC 2 Type 2 audits are essential elements of our comprehensive approach to cyber resilience. Our customers can be confident that we have the right policies and procedures in place to handle sensitive data when they use our cloud solutions or hybrid deployments,” says Mathieu Chevalier, Principal Security Architect, Genetec Inc.
