VdS certifies first mobile flood protection element

November 3, 2025

The mobile dyke has proven its strength: the mobile flood protection element from Mobildeich GmbH has performed impressively in practical tests conducted by VdS and is the first system ever to receive certification in accordance with VdS 3855 guidelines for flood protection for property protection.

In view of the increasing risk of flooding due to the climate crisis, reliable flood protection is becoming increasingly important. The mobile dyke offers a quick solution: the coated, water-filled double-chamber hose system can be set up without heavy equipment or additional material transport and provides protection against flooding up to a height of 2.60 metres within a very short time.

Testing under realistic conditions

In collaboration with the test laboratory of the Institute for Climate Impact Research (KLIFF) at the Technical University of Hamburg-Harburg, VdS test engineers have closely examined the performance of the various mobile dyke modules. Among other things, they tested resistance to waves, currents and flotsam, as well as watertightness. In future, KLIFF will also act as a branch of the VdS laboratory for further tests in order to make the tests as realistic as possible.

A new standard for flood protection

‘With the VdS certification of the mobile dyke, we are setting a new standard in municipal flood protection,’ emphasises Sebastian Brose, Head of Security & Geo at VdS. ‘In view of increasingly frequent extreme weather events, it is crucial for cities and municipalities to be able to rely on systems whose effectiveness has been proven objectively and under realistic conditions.’
